The Living Heritage of Hungarian Gypsy Music
For twenty years, the Pannon Gypsy Orchestra has preserved and brought the sound of Hungarian Gypsy music to the stage — with respect for tradition, for audiences today.
Twenty Years of Music, Community and Tradition
Since 2006, the Pannon Cigányzenekar has preserved and carried forward the classic sound and tradition of Hungarian Gypsy music. What began as an ensemble of 16 musicians has grown into a 40-member orchestra bringing together outstanding artists from different generations – including musicians who have performed as soloists, lead violinists and concertmasters with some of Hungary’s most renowned Gypsy orchestras.
For us, this music is more than a repertoire – it is a living cultural heritage. We keep the power of the great orchestral tradition alive on stage, within our community and for generations to come. Alongside Hungarian songs and traditional Gypsy music, our concerts embrace folk songs, classical masterpieces, operetta, film music and virtuoso solo works – all shaped by our distinctive sound and by the immediate connection between musicians and audience.
Tradition is not simply about preserving the past – it is about passing it on. Experienced masters and young talents stand side by side in our orchestra, ensuring that the musical knowledge and artistry entrusted to us by earlier generations will live on in those who follow. Because behind every melody we play lies a story, an emotion and a heritage waiting to be brought to life again.

„You who have brought so many smiles to people’s lips, so many tears to their eyes; you who, for so many centuries, have faithfully shared through your sobbing violins every sorrow and grief, every joy and glory of the nation—you deserve to be immortalised in writing and in images, and to be cherished by Hungarians among their dearest memories.”
Blaha Lujza, the “Nightingale of the Nation”
