Kónyai Flórián

Violin – Vice President

Pannon Portrait

A versatile violinist whose musical career embraces classical music, jazz and popular music as well as the musical traditions of the Balkans. He regularly appears on Hungarian and international stages and in theatre and concert productions. He plays in the first violin section of the Pannon Cigányzenekar and also serves as Vice President of the orchestra.

Career

For violinist Kónyai Flórián, music is far more than a profession: it is a way of life and an artistic calling that has shaped his entire career. Alongside technical mastery, his playing is defined by emotional expression, sincerity and a desire to create a genuine connection between people through music.

His artistic career is remarkably diverse. In addition to classical music, he is equally at home in jazz, popular music and the musical traditions of the Balkans and Central Europe. He has taken part in numerous productions in Hungary and abroad, with performances across Europe as well as in Japan and China.

For many years, he has maintained a close artistic relationship with the Hungarian band Punnany Massif, performing with them at prestigious venues including the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall at Müpa Budapest. His classical work has included collaboration with the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, while formations such as Váradi Style have provided an opportunity to explore the jazz side of his musicianship. Balkan folk fusion is another important element of his musical world.

Theatre also holds a special place in his career. As a violinist, Kónyai Flórián has contributed to numerous musical productions at the Petőfi Theatre in Sopron. He is also a member of the Local Vintage Company and has appeared as a guest with the Petőfi Band.

Literature, and poetry in particular, is another important part of his artistic identity. He writes poetry himself and takes part in productions that bring music and literature together. He believes that one of the greatest powers of art lies in its ability to connect cultures and people, conveying emotions and ideas that words alone are often unable to express.

Within the Pannon Cigányzenekar, he performs as a member of the first violin section and also serves as Vice President of the orchestra, contributing to its leadership and development. Both as a musician and as a member of the management, he is committed to preserving and passing on musical traditions while remaining open to new artistic encounters and dialogue between different musical worlds.

With the Pannon Orchestra

I play in the first violin section of the Pannon Cigányzenekar and, as Vice President, I also contribute to the work of the orchestra’s leadership. Alongside maintaining the highest possible artistic standards, I consider it important that we work together to preserve, pass on and represent the values of Hungarian Roma music with the dignity they deserve.

Awards and Honours

Alongside music, poetry is also very close to my heart, and I write poems myself. I believe that music and poetry are two different languages of the same inner world – both allow me to express feelings and thoughts for which everyday words are sometimes simply not enough.

Something Few People Know About Me
