On 20 January 2025, the Meeting of Roma Musicians was held at the MOM Cultural Centre in Budapest. Organised by the Pannon Cigányzenekar, the event aimed to showcase the diversity and richness of Gypsy music while strengthening connections and dialogue between musicians from Hungary and Hungarian communities beyond the country’s borders.

The evening was hosted by the Pannon Cigányzenekar, led by primás Károly Puka. Different musical traditions and regions met on the same stage: West Of Gypsy combined Gypsy music with elements of world music and jazz; Dusi Band, featuring musicians from Slovakia and Prešov, presented classical Gypsy music and world music; while Etno Rom represented authentic Roma musical traditions. The evening’s star guest was Kossuth Prize-winning artist Margit Bangó.

The concert was performed to a full house. Its special significance lay in bringing different Gypsy musical traditions together on a single stage, preserving a living musical heritage while presenting it in a contemporary context.
