Clarinet

Pannon Portrait

A young talent representing a new generation of Hungarian Roma musicians. He has already achieved notable results in national clarinet competitions while also carrying forward the tárogató tradition passed on to him by his father, Seres Vilmos.

Career

Seres Vilmos Jr. was born in 2011. From an early age, it became clear that music would be more than a family heritage for him – it would become a path of his own.

He began playing the clarinet at the age of seven at the Tóth Aladár Music School, where he laid the foundations of his instrumental training as a student of István Kohán. Alongside the clarinet, he learned the art of playing the tárogató from his father, Seres Vilmos. Through these two instruments, both closely connected to his family heritage and Hungarian musical tradition, he is gradually developing a musical voice of his own.

His talent was recognised early. He has already had opportunities to perform both as an orchestral musician and as a soloist. Despite his young age, he has appeared at several notable venues, including the Miskolc Palace of Music, the House of Music Hungary in Budapest and, in 2026, the Bükfürdő Open-Air Stage accompanied by the Pannon Cigányzenekar.

His competition results provide further evidence of his emerging talent. In 2023, he won first prize at the 10th National Orchestra Competition. In 2024, he received a special gold distinction at the 1st Budapest Clarinet Meeting, and in 2025 he placed third at the 16th National Clarinet Competition.

He is currently continuing his musical education in classical clarinet at the Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music and Instrument Making. His ambition is to become a recognised musician in his own right while carrying his family’s musical heritage forward with a distinctive artistic voice of his own.

With the Pannon Orchestra

In 2026, he performed at the Pannon Cigányzenekar’s anniversary concert at the Bükfürdő Open-Air Stage, accompanied by the orchestra. As one of its “Voices of the Future”, he represents the emerging generation of Hungarian Roma musicians.
